Back in 2021 I had the chance to be the Marketing Manager for a Modicum Theatre Perth play - Imogen Says Nothing, showing 9th - 11th December 7:30pm at Melville Theatre.
"Imogen Says Nothing is inspired by a ghost character in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, a character who is mentioned once in a 1600 Quarto version of the text and exists in no other editions. The play is a musing on who this character was, why she appeared in this text and of the power inherent in the written word. Imogen's story follows her as she makes her way to a London theatre in 1598 to convince a mapmaker to reverse the name change of her hometown. In the theatre she meets a troupe of actors, headed by one William Shakespeare, who are preparing to perform ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ for the first time. When one of the actors is too drunk to perform without someone helping him stand, Imogen breaks London’s stage laws against women performing and goes on stage. Imogen Says Nothing is a revisionist hijacking of a chunk of the literary canon, a story of comedy, tragedy, romance, plays-within-plays, magical realism and bears that look and act like people." Read more about the show here.
