From February to August I worked with Cinefest OZ as a Senior Community Intern, working with the Cinesnaps Schools Program helping to promote their 15th annual film festival (August 24-28). My main tasks involve liaising with company representatives, contacting regional shires and schools to promote the festival, updating online booking forms, and editing of graphics and videos for social media and website use. During the festival week my duties expanded to managing excursion activities for large school groups, photography and videography of events, and setting up/packing down of the festival equipment.
Cinesnaps is an Australian film schools program curated by the not for profit CinefestOZ Film Festival (Geographe French Australian Festivals Inc). Cinesnaps is about students developing an appreciation of the filmmaking process, as well as the role film, as a digital medium, plays in our culture. They create opportunities to grow future audiences for Australian film, as well as encouraging the next generation of aspiring young industry professionals. The program aims to enhance the skills of regional young people by targeting key aspects of the curriculum (English, Media, Drama, Digital Technologies and HASS), through the creative processes of film and associated STEM areas. These can expand long-term educational outcomes for regional students as the program creates activities relevant to their studies. If you're a school wanting to get involved, send an email to cinesnaps@cinefestoz.com or community@cinefestoz.com

The Industry program showcases panel videos that are shot during festival week, showcasing some brilliant guest practitioners that take part in disussing the ins and outs of each film.
My edit, No Stories About Us Without Us, was on the film Sparkles, directed by Jacqueline Pelczar, written by Tina Fielding and produced by Cody Greenwood. This panel discusses that people with lived experience of disability are the ones telling their authentic stories, portraying characters with those disabilities depicted on screen and included behind the camera in the capacities they’re passionate about. Head here to watch the short film.

In promoting Aboriginal film works, new audiences develop, as does an increased awareness and understanding of culture and appreciation of Aboriginal talent.
